List of Parks
Ottumwa has a great variety of parks - big to small - some developed, others quite wild. Around town you will find places in our parks ranging from the most modern playgrounds to ancient Iowa landscapes.
Ballingall Park
Located at River Drive and Main Street in front of the Wapello County Historical Museum and the Amtrak train depot. This urban park has a historic steam engine and water fountain. Photos Map
Bell Park
Bell Park is a family friendly, neighborhood park on Schwartz Drive. A shelter, playground equipment and tennis/basketball courts are available. Photos Map
Caldwell Park
West Main Street and Arrison. This park is maintained as an upland oak savannah, a once common Iowa landscape. Photo
Central Park
Situated between City Hall and the library at the intersection of North Court and Fourth Streets is the crown jewel of the parks. It is Ottumwa's "town square" park with an ampitheater stage, large oak trees, shade benches and picnic tables. The war memorial is located on the north side of the park on Fourth Street. Thursday evenings during the month of June the Municipal Band performs at the bandstand. Map Photos
Foster Park
Named after George Foster, grandson of John Morrell, founder of Morrell Meat Packing, is located at East Main and Foster. Playground equipment, a shelter with bar-be-cue grill, picnic tables, restrooms and drinking fountains are available. Map Foster Park Photos
Franklin Park
Next to the old Franklin School at Walnut and Second, this small two acre park has picnic tables and playground equipment. Photos
Hamilton Park
A wilderness area located at North Court and Park Avenue. Totally undeveloped, it has an oak/hickory woodland landscape and is home to a variety of wildlife.
Harmon Park
Main and Benton Streets.
Hillcrest Park
Also known as Reservoir Park because of the large water tank buried beneath the park. It is a neighborhood park with playground equipment, shelter, facilities for baseball/softball, basketball and tennis are available at this two acre park. Photos Map
Jefferson Park
Playground equipment, picnic tables and a basketball court are available at this two acre park located at Jefferson and Gara. Photos
Memorial Park
Located at Jefferson & Elm under the water tower is one of the most used parks in the park system. Merrill Cabin is available for reservations as well as the shelter on Elm. Playground equipment, picnic tables, bar-be-cue grill, restrooms, trails, bridges, ponds, benches, and drinking fountains are available at this 47 acre park. Photos Map
Ottumwa Park
Consisting of four quadrants at the intersection of Highway 34 and Highway 63. Ponds, playground equipment, drinking fountains, shelters with bar-be-cue grills, horse arena, sand volleyball, fishing, camping, walking and biking paths, softball, basketball, tennis, football and soccer are available at this 340 acre park. Pickwick Park
A small neighborhood park located near Douma School at Keota and Schuyler. Baseball/softball field with bleachers, shelter, picnic tables and playground equipment are available at this five acre park.
Troeger Park
Located across from Bridge View Center on Church Street, this shady park has tennis courts and horseshoe pitching.
Union Park
The Mid-West Little League calls this park home. Also available is a shelter with bar-be-cue grill, restrooms, picnic tables, playground equipment, drinking fountains and basketball and tennis courts. Photos Map
Wildwood Park
Located at Shaul and Finely on the south side of the city, this park has shelters with bar-be-cue grills, picnic tables, restrooms, drinking fountains, playground equipment, a Frisbee golf course, trails, baseball and softball fields and tennis and basketball courts.
