Memorial Day 2009
We Gather To Remember - Memorial Day, May 25, 2009
The 2009 Memorial Day Ceremony at the Ottumwa Cemetery was a bit...soggy.
But even the rain couldn't dampen the spirits of 30 area residents who gathered to pay homage to those who served our nation in times of need.
The Reverend Jeff Hendred presented a stirring eulogy. "Memorial Day is a sacred day of remembrance," said Rev. Hendred. From the revolutionary war to the Global War on Terrorism, soldiers "fight and die for a cause larger than themselves. We must not forget them." he said.
Members of the Iowa Army National Guard were on hand to present the National and State colors.
