Public Invited To Sewer Project Kickoff Meeting
The City Engineering Department will be holding a public information meeting about the $6.3 million Phase II of the South Ottumwa Sewer Separation Project. Construction on Phase II begins this June with completion expected in 2010. The project area is bordered by Finley and Mary Street to the north and south; Madison and Ward on the east and west.
The City Engineering Department is holding a public information meeting about the project on Wednesday, May 28th at 5:30 PM, at the Bridge View Center at 102 Church Street. Engineers and contractors will be on hand to explain the scope of the next phase of the sewer separation project, the construction schedule, street closings and how communications with residents and businesses in the area will be handled.
All interested citizens, especially those who work or live in or near the project area, are encouraged to attend the meeting and learn more.
The South Ottumwa Sewer Separation will bring Ottumwa closer to being in compliance with state and federal clean water standards, reduce the amount of pollution being discharged into the oxbow lagoons and Des Moines River and will lower incidence of raw sewage backups in resident's basements. Project funding to date has included $7 million in Local Option Sales Tax funds and nearly $5.8 million in federal grants.
