6th Street Reconstruction (Ottumwa Regional Airport)
This project is for the This project is for the full depth, full width Portland concrete cement reconstruction including storm sewer installation on 6th street located at the Ottumwa Regional Airport from Terminal Avenue proceeding northeast 2028 feet to the Job Corps Campus. This project was to begin last summer, but the Department of Labor requested we delay reconstruction until a portion of the Job Corps site was completed. To start reconstruction last summer would have hindered the access of heavy equipment involved in the construction of the Job Corps building site, not to mention the impact the equipment would have had on a newly paved road.
Originally, this project was to reconstruct 1,580 LF of 6th Street. The Department of Labor and Indian Hills Community College requested we extend the project approximately 400 LF at an estimated cost of $116,400 to be provided by the Department of Labor. This extended the project to just past the second entrance of the Hi-Tech building. This project is estimated at $578,268 and is being funded with a RISE grant through the Iowa Department of Transportation in the amount of $369,494. The local match of $208,774 is being provided by the Department of Labor, Indian Hills Community College, and Wapello County.
Bids were received and opened by the City of Ottumwa on May 12, 2010. The contractor for this project is DeLong Construction of Washington, Iowa.
