Communications Specialist
Job OpportunitiesThe City of Ottumwa is seeking an individual to work in the Ottumwa Police Department as a part-time Communications Specialist (dispatcher). Individual will be responsible for receiving, interpreting, and processing calls for the police, fire and medical emergency and non-emergency services. Relay information with speed and accuracy and dispatch police and fire personnel through the use of radio, telephone, or other communication equipment on an assigned shift. Transfer 911 emergency calls to appropriate agencies and do computer entry.
Typing experience is a plus. Beginning Salary is $14.68 per hour - high school diploma required or equivalent. Will be required to work a variety of shifts including weekends and holidays.
City Clerk
Job OpportunitiesThe City of Ottumwa is seeking an individual to fill the position of City Clerk. A very specialized clerical administrative position appointed by the City Council. This position is responsible for the supervision of the City Clerk's Office, issues a variety of city licenses, maintenance and retention of official city records including council proceedings, minutes, ordinances and resolutions, prepares agendas, records and transcribes meeting minutes of the City Council, Civil Service Commission, Board of Health.
Person must have knowledge of City Council procedures, policies, ordinances and resolutions, and legal requirements as required by City Code and the Code of Iowa. Possess good oral and written communication skills, knowledge of legal requirements for maintenance and retention of official records. Computer skills a must. Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, 3 years of supervisory experience and would prefer Iowa Municipal Clerk Certification and/or AA degree.
