Base Service

Fee: Effective July 3, 2011 $16.00 per month, billed on your water bill

Includes collection of one 64-gallon cart supplied by the collection contractor. 
Includes collection of an unlimited amount of recyclables each week.
Includes collection of appliances with a $5.00 appliance tag.
Includes collection of one bulk item per week. 
Includes the collection of properly prepared limbs & branches.
Extra trash can be set out in 33 gallon bags with a bag tag attached. Bag tags cost $1.00 and can be
purchased at area grocery stores.

Please have your items to the curb prior to 4:00 AM on your collection day. All trash carts & recycling bins are to be removed from the curb within 12 hours of collection.  Changes will be announced through local media. 

  • Trash is to be bagged so it will not blow and scatter.
  • Carts should face the correct direction to the street in order to be collected.
  • Extra bags, sitting on top of the cans, without bag tags, will not be collected.
  • Excessively large bags, more than 33 gallons or heavier than 40 pounds, will not be collected, whether or not they have a bag tag.

Curbside Recycling Collection

This service is provided to each residential household once per week as part of the base service rate. Collection will be on the same day as the trash collection. Each household will receive a recycling bin as part of the curbside collection service.  Contact Bridge City Sanitation at 682-1700 if you have any questions. 

Curbside Collection of Yard Waste

Your basic trash fee pays for the collection of limbs & branches which are properly prepared. All branches and limbs must be in lengths of 3 feet or less and bundled in weights less than 50 pounds, to aid in the collection of this material. Branches can be no larger than 3" in diameter. The bundles must be set out at the curb by 4:00 AM on Tuesday for collection.

Leaves, grass clippings and/or small garden debris must be bagged in Ottumwa/Wapello bags. These bags are brown paper bags and the logo is printed in blue ink. The bags cost $1.00 each and are available at the courtesy counters of the major grocery stores in Ottumwa. Bags that are purchased elsewhere will not be collected at the curb. Please make sure that you are purchasing the correct bags.

Construction and Demolition

The minimum price at the Landfill for construction and demolition debris up to 500 pounds is $14.25 or $57.00 per ton.  Small amounts of 2x4's and drywall can be put into the trash cart but do not exceed the weight limit on the cart.  

Service Rate Billing Method

Customers receiving city of Ottumwa water service are billed on the water bill for trash collection service.  Customers using Rural Water Service or well water are direct billed monthly by the City of Ottumwa for trash collection service.
