The City of Ottumwa’s Independence Day fireworks display will be held at dusk on Saturday, July 4th in Ottumwa Park. Eight local businesses have contributed a total of $10,500 for this years’ display. The donors include: Cargill Meat Solutions, John Deere Ottumwa Works, United Food & Commercial Workers Local 230, The Ottumwa Courier, Family Planning, Fareway Stores Incorporated, Real Estate Services and Richwell Carpet & Cabinet Center.

On Saturday night, traffic on the Wapello Street Extension will be restricted to right turns only coming in and out of Ottumwa Park. Left turns crossing the median will not be allowed. Motorists approaching from the south will only be allowed to pull into the southeast quadrant; drivers approaching from the north will only be allowed to pull into the southwest quadrant. Motorists should plan ahead for especially heavy traffic and long delays in the Ottumwa Park area.

Required food safety course for RAGBRAI food vendors. July 9, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at Ottumwa City Hall, 105 E. Third St., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501. lease use the Fourth St. Entrance and the Council Chambers will be on the right hand side of the hall.

If you are a current Certified Food Handler in the State of Iowa (Serv-Safe, or other State approved certification) you will not need to attend this course. Proof of certification must be submitted with application. Failure to provide such proof will result in attending the class. If there are questions about whether you need to attend the required Food Safety Course, the Ottumwa Health Department will make the decision.
