Zoning Board of Adjustment

The Ottumwa Zoning Board of Adjustment consists of five members appointed by the mayor with the consent of the city council who serve five-year terms. The board of adjustment hears all applications for variances of the zoning ordinance. The board will determine when exceptional or extraordinary conditions exist that will cause undue hardship owing to circumstances unique to the individual property for which not created by the property owner or applicant and the variance for the zoning ordinance will not be contrary to public interest. The board also hears appeals for Conditional Use Permits to permit a property owner to conduct a use in a zoning district subject to a conditional use permit. An application for the variance from the zoning regulations or conditional use permit is available from the Planning and Development office located in Room 301 of City Hall, 105 E. Third St., Ottumwa, Iowa.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment meets at 11:00 a.m. in the Ottumwa City Council Chamber of City Hall the second Wednesday of each month.
