AUDIT - The State Auditor of Iowa released the findings of a re-audit of Ottumwa Transit on May 25th, 2011. There were a number of findings by the Auditor that needed immediate action. At the recommendation of the Iowa Dept. of Transportation, the Ottumwa City Council followed up with action on June 7, 2011 to bring the operations and management of Ottumwa Transit under the Councils' authority. This, and other ongoing actions will bring Ottumwa Transit into compliance with state and federal regulations and help ensure the future of bus service in Ottumwa.
CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS - Riders with complaints about our services can call 641-683-0695. If you would like to file a formal grievance, download the Grievance Form , complete it and return it to our office or fax it to 641-683-0671.
DISCRIMINATION - Ottumwa Transit has provided assurances that no individual will be discriminated against in the delivery of benefits under the transit program on the basis of race, age, disability, religion, color, sex or national origin. See our Policy.
FARES - We have a number of different fare types to suit almost any rider. Cash Fare is $1.50 - Tokens are $1.50 each or 5 tokens for $6 - Montly Pass for the Elderly/Disabled is $25 - General Public Monthly Pass is $35 - Monthly Youth Pass is $20 - Children under 5 years old ride FREE! - Ottumwa Transit LIFT rides are $2.50 - Transfers are free and valid up to 50 minutes from time of issue from the downtown bus zone.
GETTING ON THE BUS - Our buses stop at designated bus stops along our regular routes. We also stop for passengers along the side of the road or at intersections; just wave to the driver. Please have your fare or pass ready when you board.
HOLIDAY SERVICE - Ottumwa Transit bus service doesn't run on the following holidays; New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
LOST & FOUND ITEMS - If you believe you have lost an article on the bus, contact Ottumwa Transit office at 641-683-0608. If you find an article on the bus, please give it to the driver.
PRINTED SCHEDULES - Printed Schedules are available on our buses, at Ottumwa City Hall and other locatons around town.
RIDER COURTESY - We ask that our riders make front seats available for elderly, disabled, or passengers with small children. No smoking or profane language is allowed on our buses.
TRANSFERS - Transfers are free and valid up to 50 minutes from time of issue from the downtown bus zone. If you need a transfer, please ask the driver when boarding the bus.
TRANSIT BOARD - On June 7, 2011, the Ottumwa City Council voted unamously to take control of Ottumwa Transit operations and management. The Ottumwa Transit Board is in place as an advisory board designed to make recommendations to the City Council about public transportation in Ottumwa. This five-member board meets monthly, or more often, if needed. The transit board members are appointed by the mayor with confirmation by the city council. Board meetings are open, public meetings under Iowa Code.
