Make Ottumwa Shine 2010

Make Ottumwa Shine 2010 ~ Preparations Underway For Community Clean Up!  2010 Make Ottumwa Shine Clean Up Week will be held May 9th - 15th. There are over one hundred areas around Ottumwa needing a clean up.

Check out the Make Ottumwa Shine Clean Up List and adopt your favorite site to spruce up.  Purple bags and latex gloves are available at the Recycling Center.

Volunteers may stop by the Recycling Center to pick up purple bags and gloves. Let us know when you've finished your project and we'll pick up the filled bags. For more information contact Jody Gates at 683-0694.

This year Make Ottumwa Shine is partnering with Acts of Iowa to provide more opportunities to help your friends and neighbors. If picking up litter isn't your thing, but you still want to help Make Ottumwa Shine, then contact www.actsofiowa.org for other projects. ACTS volunteers will work on Saturday, May 15th for about half the day on various projects in Ottumwa. This will be followed by an appreciation lunch for volunteers. There is no Free Landfill Day this year but Wapello and Davis County residents can make appointments at the Recycling Center to dispose of household hazardous materials.  Free disposal is limited to residential properties but small quantity generators like small businesses and farmers can dispose of items for a fee.  Call the Recycling Center at 641-683-0685 for more information.  

We applied for a second paint grant this year and hope to continue the Paint Ottumwa Beautiful Program this year.  Stay tuned for more information about this program.
